Jah-Amen Mobley

LOS ANGELES, CA
At the age of nine, Clarence “Ja-Amen” Mobley opened the doors to the world of African drumming and percussion and studied with various master drummers over time. Among his instructors were the famed Ibrahim Camara, former drummer of the National Dance Company of Senegal, and Bamadele Osumarea, former Musical Director of Art of Black Dance and Music. Over the years, Ja-Amen has inspired many children and adults to pursue their passions for African music and dance. In 1995, he joined the cast of Disney’s Lion King Parade, which ran for two years and two years later, he landed a role as a featured extra in the film “The Amistad”. This experience also led him to appear in “Wild Things” (1998) and “Dirty” (2005). Currently, Ja-Amen is teaching drumming to children at the Laguna School of Music in Laguna Beach, CA as well as for the YMCA of Anaheim. Once a week, he teaches a community drums class in Montclair, CA. As always, he continues to inspire his students to achieve clarity and understanding through African drumming. Ja-Amen uses Tycoon Percussion’s Dancing Drum Signature Series Djembes and Djun Djuns for playing as well as teaching.
